The Hub Lock is used to attach the Sno Simple Shield to the car tire. This prevents the device from flapping in the wind or blowing off the car during a storm. In addition, the hub lock can be used as a secure locking system (by using a padlock), instead of or in addition to, the Tire Lock.
The Hub Lock lock looks like a silver chrome snow flake and is located on your Sno Simple Shield. Behind it, you will notice two loops and a cover attached by a slim, silver chain.
The Locking cords are used in conjunction with the hub lock. There is one locking cord per Shield included with each Shields. Wind the locking cord through the spaces in your wheel hub, or, if you don't have hub gaps, wrap the cord around the perimeter of your tire. An extra long accessory cord for tires with no hubs is available separately.
Thread the locking cord ends into the small circle on the Hub Lock cover, and then into each loop.
Pull the cords upwards towards you, so the circular shield is pulled upwards and up against the car tire. Pull as far as you can so the Shield is as close as possible to the tire.
Fit the Hub Lock Cover over the loops using the rectangular grooves provided. Maintaining pressure, slip a snap hook into one of the loops. Your Shield will still be a bit slack. .
Using the cord that does not yet have the snap hook connected, firmly pull on this to move the Shield up against the car tire as close as possible. Apply the second snap hook though the second loop. The wires are now now clamped tight and the fit is complete.
Tuck the Shield under the car rim so the area is neatly covered.
If the Tire Lock has not been used or if further security is desired, a padlock can be used instead of the snap hooks. The padlock can be connected into one loop with a snap hook in the other, or through both loops. Any padlock used MUST be suitable for wet weather and subzero temperatures to avoid the padlock failing. Padlocks recommended diameter; 7 mm or 9/32 inches. Shackle length: 38 mm or 1.5 inches in order to fit through the loops. Suitable padlocks must be purchased separately.
The Hub Lock is always the first part of the Sno Simple Shield that should be disconnected following use. Detach the snap hooks (or padlock if one has been used).. Pull the Locking cord out of the loops, the hub (or from around your tire) to disconnect from your car tire.
